Observing Antarctica
In this interactive activity
adapted from NASA, students are invited to view
Antarctica in unsurpassed detail using a compilation of high-resolution
images called the Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica (LIMA).
Students can choose to investigate Antarctica's moving ice;
get closeup views of icebergs, snow dunes, and other land
and seascape features; learn how cracks in a glacier can be
used to gauge its speed; see how ridges and troughs in the
ice help scientists determine glacier flow patterns; and
take a flying tour of the area surrounding McMurdo Station,
a scientific research center operated by the United States.

Shackleton: a voyage of Endurance

Shackleton's journey with animated maps and drawings of the men and equipment,
depicting their efforts to maintain their morale in the face of the loss of
their ship and the lack of response from the home country.

Classroom Antarctica
http://www.aad.gov.au/default.asp?casid=11489
Classroom Antarctica is designed to help both teachers and students gain
a greater awareness of the global importance of Antarctica, of
Australia's role in Antarctica, past and present, and our commitmentto
its future. We can learn much from studying Antarctica and the SouthernOcean and their ecosystems, how scientific programs are supported there,
and how people live in the harsh, isolated environment.
